Little known these days over here, but the Portugese drink gallons of this stuff as an apretif - and good on 'em! Niepoort is commonly agreed to make the very best - refreshing despite the full body.
Like Vintage port, LBV is made with wines from a single vintage, but spends more time in oak and needs less bottle age. This is rich and concentrated with dense dark fruits, dried grapes and orange peel. Delicious, and not to be mixed with brandy!
Ruby port which has been aged in oak barrels to lighten and soften the wine. This is a young and full bodied example of the style, which accentuates the nuttiness of the ruby without losing too much of the body and power
This is effectively a single vintage tawny port, lighter than a vintage but with almost as much chracter. Dried fruit, nuts and coffee.
Secundum is, as it sounds, Niepoort's second vintage port. A very good vintage so this is high quality and has the ability to age very well.
